Thompson Howard IP is led by Dian Howard, an intellectual property lawyer and Trademark Agent with over 10 years of legal experience. She advises clients ranging from entrepreneurs, creatives and early-stage startups to global companies, across various industries, including electronics, technology, fashion, luxury goods and cosmetics.  

Dian helps clients develop, protect, and leverage the value of their IP assets. Her work includes obtaining IP registrations, infringement monitoring and enforcement, negotiating IP commercial agreements, and advising on intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

As a registered Canadian trademark agent, Dian offers in-depth brand strategy advice and handles all levels of trademark prosecution from brand development through to registration and enforcement. She also coordinates and manages global trademark portfolios for Canadian businesses. She also advises clients on domain name disputes.

Dian maintains a strong focus on copyright law. She is passionate about helping authors, artists, musicians and other creatives secure, leverage and monetize their content/intellectual property rights. She works closely with clients to develop practical copyright strategies that support both creative objectives and commercial success. Dian also assists clients with enforcing their content rights and guides them through the resolution  of online copyright related disputes.

Dian advises clients on marketing, advertising, e-commerce and social media matters. She negotiates influencer and marketing agreements and drafts effective privacy policies and terms of service for e-commerce businesses. She represents clients on marketing, promotional and anti-spam compliance matters, including review of advertisements, contest materials and email marketing processes.
